Opportunities

Undergraduate research opportunities (Georgia Tech students)

  • We welcome Georgia Tech undergraduates who are interested in gaining research experience in the areas of mechanical design, machine learning, medical devices, human augmentation, soft robotics, robotic manipulation, dynamics, and controls.
  • Please note that we generally discourage short term projects (single semester) since there is a significant amount of training required prior to participating in one of our research programs.
  • Minimum requirements for consideration:
    • Hold a 3.5 GPA or better
    • Commit a minimum of 8 hours/week to research
    • Commit to at least two semesters of research
    • Find a graduate student in the ARM Lab who agrees to mentor you
    • Attend lab meetings and give an oral presentation on research at least once a semester
  • Students meeting these requirements can send their CV and a brief explanation of why they are interested in the ARM Lab to opportunities.armlab@gmail.com.
  • Steady and consistent research progress is required to maintain membership in this lab. Graduate student mentors and Prof. Hammond will evaluate your progress at the end of each semester.
  • Students interested in applying to PURA in order to conduct research in the ARM Lab should contact Prof. Hammond to discuss potential projects. Details in the PURA program can be found here (http://urop.gatech.edu/content/presidents-undergraduate-research-awards).

Undergraduate Student Researcher (student at another university)

Master’s student researchers

  • The ARM Lab is currently seeking master’s students for the upcoming admissions cycle (Fall 2021 incoming class). There are three open positions, one with full GRA support and two with GA (partial) support. Please contact Dr. Hammond if you are interested, and include your CV/resume.
  • In some cases, we will allow master’s students to earn research credit.

Doctoral student researchers

  • The ARM Lab is not currently seeking doctoral students for the upcoming admissions cycle (Fall 2021 incoming class).
  • We generally consider only students who have already been admitted to a Georgia Tech PhD program.
  • We generally consider students having undergraduate degrees in electrical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering, or in a field related to our major research themes.

Postdoctoral researchers

  • The ARM Lab does not currently have funding available for postdoctoral researchers. However, if you have your own funding, you can send your CV along with your research interests and other pertinent information to opportunities.armlab@gmail.com.
  • Exceptional candidates seeking external fellowships are also welcome to contact Prof. Hammond to discuss opportunities. Example postdoctoral fellowships include the NSF Postdoctoral Fellowships in Biology, the Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program, and the Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship.
