Inspired by nature animals’ soft-tissue and rigid-skeleton structure, he focuses on designing robots that consist of a combination of soft actuators, rigid and flexible components. Additionally, he is interested in designing robots with the vertebrae structure and undulatory motion pattern, which appears in body structure and motion pattern for animals swimming in water and sand.
